On the afternoon of July 3, the College of International Exchange, Shenzhen University, organized teachers and students to visit UBTECH Robotics Corporation, embarking on a distinctive journey of technological exploration. Led by Zhang Daqiang, Vice Dean of the College, the delegation included teachers Yang Liang, Zhuo Jingjing and Leng Yuhang, together with international students from the 2023 cohort of Chinese Language and Literature (Business Track) and the Tokyo College of Shenzhen University.

Hailing from diverse countries and regions, the international students gathered with curiosity and enthusiasm about China’s technological advances. Their destination, UBTECH Robotics, is an enterprise with global prominence in the field of humanoid robots. Here, Chinese and international teachers and students gained first-hand access to cutting-edge robotic technologies and experienced the dynamism of China’s intelligent manufacturing.

Upon arrival at UBTECH Headquarters, Zhou Peng, Person-in-Charge of the Overseas Business Department, warmly received the faculty and student group and personally escorted them on a tour of the corporate exhibition hall. As soon as they entered the main entrance, an intelligent robot waved to the teachers and students on its own initiative. The students stepped forward one after another to shake hands and interact with it. The atmosphere was relaxed and lively, filled with constant laughter.

Inside the exhibition hall, staff systematically introduced UBTECH’s development history and technological layout. Founded in 2012, the enterprise has grown through more than a decade of innovation and development to become the much-watched "first listed company focusing on humanoid robots". Teachers and students observed a wide range of robot products up close: industrial robots flexibly completed simulated operational tasks such as sorting and handling; compact educational robots demonstrated functions including voice interaction and dancing movements. The newly unveiled full-size hyper-realistic humanoid robot in the exhibition hall particularly captured the students’ attention. Its lifelike appearance and fluid movements made everyone stop to take photos and express amazement.

After the tour, Vice Dean Zhang Daqiang held discussions with Zhou Peng on topics including the current landscape of the robotics industry and international exchanges. Faculty members also exchanged views with Zhou Peng concerning technology research and development as well as talent training. Meanwhile, international students raised active questions about career development, technological R&D and overseas market expansion, to which Zhou Peng provided patient responses one by one.

During the discussion, Vice Dean Zhang Daqiang encouraged international students to integrate insights gained from this visit into their academic studies. As students majoring in Chinese Language and Literature (Business Track), they should not only master linguistic and cultural knowledge, but also gain an in-depth understanding of industrial development in China, laying a solid foundation for future international business communication. International students from various countries and regions remarked that this visit allowed them to directly experience the innovative vitality of Chinese tech enterprises. It broadened their global vision and deepened their understanding of China’s intelligent manufacturing.

This visit constitutes an important initiative of the College of International Exchange, Shenzhen University to further integrate industry and education. The school will continue to expand the scope and depth of university-enterprise cooperation, regularly organize Chinese and international students to visit frontline enterprises in relevant industries, help students improve their comprehensive competence through practice. Such efforts enable international students in China to better grasp China’s industrial development and facilitate cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.
