PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Journalism and communication, as a humanities and social science, is a discipline that studies the process of social interaction, news and information communication, media industry and media culture. Based in Shenzhen, a Special Economic Zone as the pilot demonstration area of socialism with Chinese characteristics, as well as key city in the national strategy of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, this program aims to train students with global perspectives, academic capabilities, critical thinking, and innovative spirits.

To Assist Doctoral Students in:

1. establishing theoretical basis for humanities and social sciences.

2. understanding the knowledge map of journalism and mass communications.

3. broadening their visions with international knowledge, thus enhancing their creative and innovative capabilities in conducting academic research.

4. training them to be world-class researchers and analysts in communication studies; or outstanding professionals in the journalism and  communication industry.

CORE COURSES

Journalism and Communication theories and literature study, Research methods of Journalism and Communication, Academic Research and Thesis Writing, Media and Cultural Studies, Digital Media and Society.

CAREER PROSPECTS

The majority of graduates work in positions aligned with this program. Most are employed as teachers or researchers at universities or scientific research institutions.

于晓峰，博士，先后获评聘文艺学、传播学副高职称，博士生导师。2004年入职深圳大学，2012年任教于深圳大学传播学院。曾赴英国伦敦大学亚非学院短期访问（2018年6-8月）。现任深圳大学传播学院广告系教师，深圳大学传媒与文化发展研究中心特聘研究员，中外文论比较专业委员会理事。主要研究领域为文化传播、符号学、文学艺术理论、数字营销，主持国家社科基金一般项目2项，出版专著《诠释的张力：埃科文本诠释理论研究》（2010），发表中英文论文30余篇。

Xiaofeng Yu, Ph.D., is an associate professor and doctoral advisor at the School of Communication, Shenzhen University, specializing in cultural communication, semiotics, literary and art theory, and digital marketing. He joined Shenzhen University in 2004 and began teaching in the School of Communication in 2012. In 2018, he completed an academic exchange at the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. Dr. Yu also serves as a research fellow at Shenzhen University’s Media and Cultural Development Center and is a board member of the Comparative Studies of Chinese and Foreign Literary Theory Committee. His work includes leading two National Social Science Foundation projects, publishing The Tension of Interpretation: A Study of Umberto Eco’s Theory of Textual Interpretation(2010), and authoring over 30 research papers in Chinese and English.

彭华新，教授，博士生导师，新闻学博士，美国威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校访问学者（2018.8-2019.8），曾被评为深圳大学“荔园优秀学者”、深圳市优秀教师。曾在《人民日报》《光明日报》《新华每日电讯》等报刊发表新闻及评论文章多篇，获各类新闻奖十余项。从2013年至今任教于深圳大学传播学院。现兼任深圳大学传媒与文化发展研究中心研究员，深圳大学文化产业研究院研究员，中国高校影视学会传媒文化专业委员会理事，中国高校影视学会网络视听专业委员会理事。

Peng Huaxin is a Professor and PhD supervisor with a doctorate in Journalism. He was a Visiting Scholar at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (August 2018–August 2019). He has been recognized as a “Liyuan Outstanding Scholar” of Shenzhen University and an “Excellent Teacher” of Shenzhen Municipality.

Prof. Peng has published numerous news reports in major national outlets such as People’s Daily, Guangming Daily, and Xinhua Daily Telegraph, and has received more than ten journalism awards. He has been a faculty member of the School of Media and Communication at Shenzhen University since 2013.

He also serves as a Research Fellow at the Center for Communication and Cultural Development at Shenzhen University.

虞鑫，深圳大学传播学院“百人计划”教授、博士生导师。清华大学博士，牛津大学博士后。2024年加入深圳大学传播学院。兼任中国新闻史学会中国特色新闻学专业委员会常务理事、秘书长，发表SSCI、CSSCI期刊论文40余篇。主持国家社科基金项目及省部级委托项目多项。主要研究领域包括新闻理论、国际传播、舆论与国家治理等。曾获教育部高等学校科学研究优秀成果奖（人文社会科学）、《中国新闻传播学年鉴》2021-2022年度原创概念理论、中国新闻史学会中国新闻传播学学会奖优秀学术奖。

Yu Xin is a “Hundred Talents Program” Professor and PhD supervisor at the School of Media and Communication, Shenzhen University. He holds a PhD from Tsinghua University and completed his postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford.

Prof. Yu has published more than 40 papers in SSCI and CSSCI journals and has led multiple projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China as well as several provincial and ministerial-level commissioned projects.

His research interests include journalism theory, international communication, public opinion, and national governance. He has received several academic honors, including the Ministry of Education Award for Outstanding Achievements in Humanities and Social Sciences in Higher Education.
