As autumn deepens and the full moon approaches, the DIY Woven Basket Craft Workshop hosted by the College of International Exchange was held warmly on the afternoon of September 24 on the first floor of DingxiangGe, Yuehai Campus. Students from various countries gathered together, using weaving straps as threads and ingenuity as ink, weaving exclusive handmade baskets for the Mid-Autumn Festival with flying fingertips, gathering autumn moonlight and beautiful expectations into them.

With Skillful Hands We Weave Baskets, Embracing the Moonlight
At the event, weaving straps in fresh colors were neatly laid out, adorned with accessories such as gauze butterflies, Mid-Autumn tassel sachets, and stickers featuring jade rabbits and full moon motifs, all awaiting creative inspiration. Under the patient guidance of a professional handicraft teacher, students started with basic weaving techniques and gradually learned basket body weaving, color coordination, and decorative composition. The teacher moved between the seats, providing one-on-one instruction and hands-on correction of techniques. Even students with zero experience quickly got the hang of it in the relaxed atmosphere. Stitch by stitch, the once scattered weaving straps gradually took the shape of a basket.

Some students preferred a simple and elegant style, adorning the handle with just a tassel sachet, while others favored a lively and festive look, layering jade rabbit stickers and gauze butterflies for decoration. With fingers flying and laughter ringing out, unique Mid-Autumn woven baskets quietly took shape under focused gazes. Participating students said that having a period of immersive handcrafting time amid their busy coursework allowed them to relax both body and mind, and also gave them a handmade Mid-Autumn gift created with their own hands.

Immersive Handcrafting Adds Color to the Mid-Autumn Festival
After completing the weaving, everyone freely mixed and matched accessories, decorating their baskets with Mid-Autumn elements one by one. Some baskets were hung with full-moon tassels, some were covered with jade rabbit stickers, and others were tied with gauze bows in gentle curves. Students either bowed their heads in creation or admired each other's finished works, creating a warm and lively atmosphere. At the end of the event, everyone held up their works for group photos, bringing this hand-woven Mid-Autumn poetry back to their dormitories to decorate their lives, or giving them as unique little Mid-Autumn gifts to family and friends.

Experiencing China · Immersed in Aesthetic Education
This DIY woven basket handcraft event is one of the "Experiencing China" series activities of the School of International Exchange, and also a vivid practice of the School's integration of aesthetic education into international students' Chinese cultural experience. Using traditional weaving handcraft as a medium, the event combined Mid-Autumn culture, handicraft art, and aesthetic experience, allowing international students to closely feel the unique charm of traditional Chinese handicrafts and enhance their aesthetic perception and hands-on creativity in the process of weaving and decorating Mid-Autumn elements. Through making their own exclusive Mid-Autumn baskets, international students experienced the warmth and fun of Chinese culture in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere, further deepening their understanding of the cultural connotations of the Mid-Autumn Festival and enhancing their perception of and identification with Chinese culture.
