PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The mathematics discipline of our university obtained the academic doctoral program in July 2021. Cultivate research-oriented and high-level professionals with all-round moral, intellectual and physical development to meet the needs of national and local development. Master solid expertise in mathematics, computer software and theory, and be familiar with the progress, trend and development frontier of big data science.

CORE COURSES

Functional analysis, modern mathematical theory, complex analysis, dynamical system, Riemannian surface, complex dynamical system, etc.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Chen Zhimin

Introduction

Professor of Mathematics and Changjiang Scholar. He was previously employed in respect positions at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Tianjin University, Nankai University and University of Southampton. In addition, he served as a temporary visiting researcher at Oxford University Computing Laboratory, MIT, Courant Institute, Indiana University and Chinese University of Hong Kong. He currently leads an excellent team engaging in the mathematical theory and numerical computation of fluid dynamics equations, and has published over 90 SCI journal papers. Recently, his main studies have focused upon the following issues:  numerical computation of wave-body motions, instability of vortex flows, vortex induced vibration and turbulence, energy stability of parallel flow, instability and chaotic behaviours of the Kolmogorov flow.

Jingsong He

Introduction

Jingsong He received the Doctor’s Degree of Science from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, P. R. China in 1999. He is a Professor of Mathematics at Institute for advanced Study, Shenzhen University since November 2018. Prof. He has published about 200 scientific papers in the field of mathematical physics and nonlinear waves. Prof. He has got six grants from NSF of China (2004-2024), one grant from Program for NCET of China (2009-2011). Prof. He has also got Chinese fellowship from University of Warwick (UK) for half year visit (2003), and CNPq-TWAS Postdoctoral fellowship (2005) for one year visit at Brazil, and scholarship from CSC of China (2011) for one year visit at University of Cambridge.  Prof. He is an editor of Physica D: Nonlinear Phenomena(2021-2024).

Research interests: integrable partial differential equations (mathematical theory and physical applications).

Complex dynamics is a study of the iterates of holomorphic mappings on the complex manifolds,which has connections with complex analysis, dynamical systems, conformal geometry, topology and even computer technology, etc. The field is an active, fertile area of research.

Introduction


Dr. Yaohua Hu is an associate professor in College of Mathematics and Statistics at Shenzhen University. His current research interests include theory and algorithms for large-scale optimization, including nonconvex sparse optimization, generalized convex optimization and composite optimization problems, and their applications in machine learning, bioinformatics and spectrum analysis. He has been awarded by the Excellent Young Scientists Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and has published 40+ papers in prestigious international journals, including SIOPT, JMLR, EJOR, BIB etc.

Introduction


The research direction of our team mainly focuses on artificial intelligence, aiming to solve the key problems in machine learning and pattern recognition by using the techniques of probability&statistics and optimization. Specific topics include but are not limited to supervised learning, semi-supervised learning, weakly-supervised learning,  multi-instance and multi-label learning, generalization capability analysis, deep learning, adversarial examples and adversarial robustness, intelligent computing and evolutionary algorithms, and their applications in computer vision, image processing, big data analytic, etc. We have strong connections with the majors and teams of computer science and technology, information and computing science, applied statistics, electronics and information engineering, artificial intelligence, etc., and our researches have strong application orientation.
