0803Z2 Optomechatronics Engineering and Application

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The target of this program is to educate high-level professionals with independent research and teaching abilities in the field of “optomechatronics engineering and application”. The program also includes some organizational and managerial skill training.

In the field of optomechatronics engineering, the doctoral students have to understand the basic concept and in-depth professional knowledge, paper writing and communication capabilities. Language requirement should meet 3rd level of SAT before applying the program.

In the program, researches is a comprehensive discipline covering optics, mechanical engineering, control engineering, renewable engineering, physical chemistry, micro-nano maufacturing technology, material science,etc. The program is aiming to address scientific problems on optomechatronics engineering and application, focusing on new design, manufacture on optiomechatronics and new theories and technologies on control science. Four different research areas in the program are nano-surface and optomechatronics, photoelectric sensing detection and smart grid control, amorphous alloy material and applied technology, optoelectromechanical control and intelligent robot.

The education for doctoral students adopts doctoral supervisor responsibility system combined with collective education, which the actual supervisor is the main responsible person, providing doctoral students with comprehensive specific guidance. Also, the program contains both theoretical learning and scientific researches.

Optomechatronics engineering and application is one of popular comprehensive disciplines in scientific research field, being a significant role in the development of integral and precision optoelectronic devices. The doctoral program has in total 15 international doctoral supervisors, including 3 distinguished professors, 5 professors, 6 associate professors, 1 associate research fellow. All of the supervisors have oversea research background and own well-known reputation in their specific research fields.

The doctoral program has a total number over 50 projects on national and provincial level scientific projects within 5 years, and published over 100 SCI research articles. So far there are 20 doctoral students and over 10 post doctorates in the program. The program is eligible to cultivate high-quality PhD with advanced research facilities, expertise education experiences with international vision.

CORE COURSES

Chinese overview, basic Chinese, scientific computation, photoelectric sensing and detection technology, advanced optical manufacturing technology, professional foreign language, thesis writing guidance, smart grid technology, nano-surface engineering and tribology, amorphous alloy formation and performance, advanced robotics.

The program is aiming to cultivate innovative intellects on scientific research and industries within the field of optomechatronics engineering and application. Future career covers higher education and scientific research in universities and research institutes, national and international production technology, R&D, engineering construction, enterprise management and professional education in various fields. Introduction

Guang-Zhong Cao received the B.Eng., M.Eng., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and automation from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 1989, 1992, and 1996,respectively. He was a postdoctoral researcher at KAIST in Korea from 1998-1999, and as a senior visiting scholar at UCLan, UK in 2001, 2003 and 2005 respectively, and also at MIT, USA in 2016.

Currently he is a Professor and the Director of the Guangdong Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Control and Intelligent Robots and the Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Control, College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Shenzhen University, China.

He has authored more than 160 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings. He has also published 4 professional books and held more than 30 patents. His research interests include motor design and control, control theory, robotics, magnetic levitation system, computer vision and Internet of things.

Introduction

  Professor Zhangwei Chen is currently the Director of the Additive Manufacturing Institute at Shenzhen University. He is editor of Journal of Advanced Ceramics (SCI) and Journal of Materials Engineering (EI, in Chinese), guest editor of Journal of Inorganic Materials and Open Ceramics, a board member of the Chinese Society of Mechanical Engineering - Additive Manufacturing Branch. He holds a Ph.D. from Imperial College London, with his PhD thesis awarded the prestigious JK Prize. He has been working on the fields of materials processing, advanced manufacturing and characterizations etc. He has spent over 10 years particularly on the research of 3D printing of ceramics. Prof. Chen is PI/Co-I of projects supported by NSFC, Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles in top journals including Acta Materialia, Additive Manufacturing, Virtual and Physical Prototyping, Materials Research Letter, Journal of the European Ceramic Society, etc. Some have been selected as front cover articles, feature articles. He has also actively engaged in the organization/chairing of national/international conferences and forums. He is also a panel referee of funding agents in an international level, including Canada, Singapore, New Zealand, etc. He has supervised 7 postdocs and over 20 postgraduates.

Dr. Xiong Liang is currently a full professor at Shenzhen University. His current research interests include advanced manufacturing and functional application of metallic glass, high frequency dynamic loading behavior of metallic glass, and fabrication of key materials for robot harmonic reducer. So far, he has achieved more than 20 high-quality research outputs in top-tier journals, such as Materials & Design, Journal of Micromechanics and Microengineering, etc. He presided over a number of research fund projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province. At present, he is in a multidisciplinary scientific research team involving amorphous alloy, high entropy alloy, martensitic transformation alloy and other advanced metal materials, which has established good cooperative relationships with Institute of Physics (CAS), Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory and relevant enterprises in the metal field.

Introduction

Prof. LIU Zhiyuan is a distinguished research fellow in Additive Manufacturing Institute of Shenzhen University, and he is an overseas high-level talent of Shenzhen. His research interest covers additive manufacturing of advanced metallic materials, including high entropy alloy, high-strength steel and metallic glass. He is aimed at adjusting the microstructure of the metallic materials through the adjustment of additive manufacturing processing parameters, thus optimizing their mechanical performance, and therefore laying theoretical foundation for their application in nuclear power and automobile industries. For the complex microstructures constructed during additive manufacturing, Prof. Liu has classified metals’ microstructures into solidification and post-solidification microstructures formed in different stage of fabrication, and proposed a multi-stage microstructural control strategy. Prof. Liu has published ~30 papers in top academic journals such as Acta Materialia, Additive Manufacturing, Scripta Materialia, and so on, and he has presided over more than 10 research projects supported by natural science foundation of China, Guangdong Province and Shenzhen City.

Introduction

  Recipient of the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars. Vice chairman of amorphous alloy Branch of China Metal Society. His research interests include amorphous alloy materials, 3D printing materials, high efficiency motor and metal structure materials. His team has been prepared the iron-based amorphous alloy with the strongest glass forming ability in the world,proposed a new method for preparing bulk amorphous alloys and a new criterion for characterizing glass forming ability,found that the compression strength and plasticity of amorphous alloys have strong size effect,and carbon nanotubes can be converted into diamond during discharge plasma sintering. In the world, his team takes the lead in using amorphous alloys to manufacture precision optical devices and high-end equipment such as new energy vehicles. He has obtained more than 20 national invention patents, published more than 250 papers in international first-class academic journals.

Introduction

 Dr Pan Jianfei obtained his BSc and PhD from the Changchun University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2001 and 2007, respectively.

After graduation in 2007, he works as an academic staff in School of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Shenzhen University, as a Lecturer. In 2009 and 2013, he is promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor.

Dr. Pan has published near 100 academic papers, and has obtained 10 patent inventions (1 US patent and 9 Chinese patents). He has published a professional book on planar switched reluctance motor design, analysis and control in VDM Verlag Publishing Group and two Chinese academic books. Research Specialties include: Robotics, Renewable Energy, Actuators Design and Control and Advanced Control Methods.

Introduction

  Li Qiu received the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in control theory and control engineering from the South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China, in 2006 and 2011, respectively. From August 2016 to August 2017, she was a Visiting Scholar with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Victoria, Victoria, BC, Canada. Currently she is working in College of Mechatronics and Control Engineering, Shenzhen University. Her current research interests include networked control systems, Markovian jump linear systems and robust control, control of switched reluctance motors and generators.

Introduction

Guoqing Zhang is an associate professor at Shenzhen University and selected as a Shenzhen Peacock Program for Overseas/Professional High-Level Talents. He is serves as a Deputy Director of Guangdong Key Laboratory of Electromagnetic Control and Intelligent Robots, Committee member of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society Design Branch, Member of Advanced Optical Manufacturing Young Expert Committee of Chinese Optical Engineering Society.His research interest include robots and intelligent equipment, ultra-precision machining technology and equipment etc.. Until now, he has hosted more than 10 research projects including 3 NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) projects, published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers and been granted 14 US patents and 24 CN patents. Co-edited 2 books published by Springer. He is now served as an academic editor for the international journal “Shock and Vibration” and reviewers for more than 10 international journals. He has won more than 5 prizes includes the China Industry-University-Research Cooperation Promotion Award (individual) and the second prize of innovation achievement.

Introduction

Lou Yan is a professor, doctoral supervisor, vice dean of Shenzhen University, and a visiting scholar at the University of Birmingham, UK. Engaged in the research of material forming for more than 20 years, mainly engaged in the research of advanced manufacturing and intelligent manufacturing of new equipment, new technology and forming mechanism of micro-forming of metal materials/polymer materials. More than 50 papers have been published in international journals and important international conferences, and 6 invention patents have been authorized. Presided over 3 general projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 6 provincial and ministerial-level projects, and 9 municipal-level projects. Introduction

  Shi Hongyan, PhD, Associate professor, editorial board member of Circuit World. Her research interests include key technology of intelligent manufacturing, micro-machining technology of composite materials, and optimization technology of electromechanical system. Currently, She has presided over a Key R&D Project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, a project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and two Key Science and Technology Projects of Shenzhen. A series of research achievements have been made in the key technology, machining mechanism and machining equipment of ultra-precision micro-drilling. As the first accomplisher, She has won the second prize of Guangdong Science and Technology Progress Award, the second prize of Shenzhen Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of Guangdong Mechanical Engineering Association Science and Technology Progress Award, and the first prize of Guangdong Machinery Industry Science and Technology Award.

Introduction

  Xi Zhang acheived her Ph.D of electronic engineering in Nanyang Technological University Singapore in 2013. From 2012 to 2014, she did postdoctoral research in NTU and visit Melbourne Univeristy, Australia. In 2014, she joined Shenzhen University as Shenzhen High-caliber Overseas Talent. Her research interests include ECR extreme flexible manufacturing, electro-optical robotics, electro-optical sensor, nano/micro sensor system. She is author or co-author of more than 70 SCI papers such as Nano Letters, Chemical Reviews, Nano Research, Nanophotonics, etc., in the field of nano/micro sensor theory and applications, and ECR manufacturing. The total citation of her papers is larger than 1800 times and the H-index is 27. Her research activities have been awarded with the start-up grant of Shenzhen high-caliber overseas talent in 2015, Natural science foundation of Guangdong in 2016, and Natural science foundation yourth grant of China in 2017.

Introduction

  Xue FAN, Female, Ph.D, Associate professor, Senior member of Chinese Tribology Insititute CMES, Shenzhen high level talents. She learnt at Xi’an Jjiaotong University majored in Mechanical Engineering and got her Ph.D degree in March, 2012. She is also a visiting scholar in The University of Tokyo. Her research interests include the nanosurface engineering with electron cyclotron resonance (ECR) plasma system, manufacuturing and fabrication of carbon based nanosurface, multi-scale tribological properties of carbon films, and the contact and friction mechanism of the micro and nano device surfaces studied with in-situ TEM tests. Host the research projects supported from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and from Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Science and Technology Innovation Commission. She has published 20 international papers and presented on about 20 international conferences in the fields of Mechanical Engineering.

Dr. Chen is a Research Associate Professor of Shenzhen University, Shenzhen High-level Talent, Outstanding Young Teacher of Shenzhen University. Research interests include ultralow friction carbon film, electron irradiation micro-nano fabrication, and flexible sensor. Bo Zhang is a research professor, foreign doctoral supervisor, director of Shenzhen Joint Laboratory of Autonomous Unmanned Systems and Intelligent Operation, and head of Robotics Engineering. His research interests include: 1. cluster intelligence, cluster perception and fusion and cluster robotics; 2. human and robot cluster collaboration and fusion; 4. intelligent autonomous unmanned system perception, planning and control; 5. cluster ocean energy harvesting and distributed energy management and other related research. Research specialties include intelligent manufacturing, intelligent robotics, clean energy, and intelligent energy that is carbon neutral. These areas have broad employment prospects and opportunities for further study, and are also the most critical future trends and directions in global science and technology.
