Recently, in the Intermediate Chinese Comprehensive class of the College of International Exchange of Shenzhen University, an innovative "Word Poker" teaching activity has sparked enthusiastic responses. Teacher Ji Jingjing, for the students of Class 1, 2023 Grade of Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, meticulously designed a language game that ingeniously combines knowledge consolidation with fun interaction, enabling students to master word collocation skills efficiently while enjoying themselves. This vividly demonstrates the teaching wisdom of "learning through play".
Innovative Design: Bringing Language Learning to Life
Teacher Ji broke through the traditional framework of vocabulary teaching and made a set of freely combinable poker cards with high-frequency Chinese vocabulary. Students flexibly used the vocabulary in time-limited challenges through various gameplay such as "combination speed race" and "scenario sentence PK". This not only exercised their ability to match words but also deepened their understanding of abstract concepts.
Student feedback: Learning can be so interesting!
"Before, I always got confused with collocations. But now, through games, they are engraved in my mind!" "When we team up with classmates to pass levels, we correct each other's mistakes. This kind of interaction makes the memory more profound." The students excitedly shared.
Many students voluntarily suggested after class that games be incorporated into regular practice. Some even took the initiative to collect cards, promoting learning to extend from the classroom to after-school activities.
The Deeper Meaning of Education: Exploring the Paradigm of Gamification in Teaching
As an innovative practice in the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language, Teacher Ji Jingjing believes that "language learning should not be a mechanical and burdensome task of memorization. By stimulating intrinsic motivation through game mechanisms, allowing students to naturally acquire knowledge in the process of collaboration, competition and a sense of achievement, this is the effective path."
