An international student from our college won the “Sino-Japanese Friendship Cup” Sino-Japanese University Student Essay Contest Outstanding Work Award

On June 28, 2023, the results of the "Sino-Japanese Friendship Cup" Chinese and Japanese University Student Essay Contest were announced. Kataoka Yuko, a Japanese student studying at our university, was awarded the Masterpiece Award.

The competition was jointly organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Japan-China Friendship Succession and Development Association. The sponsors of the competition included the China-Japanese Language Teaching Research Association, the Embassy of Japan in China, the Japanese Cultural Center in Beijing, and the Japan-China Friendship Association.

In 2023, for the first time, separate essays were collected from Japan and China. A total of 2,340 essays were received from 208 universities in the two countries, generating an overwhelming response. After undergoing multiple rounds of careful and rigorous review, several essays were ultimately selected for 1 Grand Prize, 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, and 15 Masterpiece Awards.

The essay titled "What Can I Do to Build a Stronger Bridge of Friendship between Japan and China" by Kataoka Yuko stood out among many submissions. The article explores three aspects key aspects: "heart to heart," "harmony and difference," and "perseverance", thus, emphasizing the importance of discovering, understanding, and accepting the cultural differences between China and Japan in order to foster compatibility, inclusivity, and a harmonious atmosphere. In his essay Kataoka Yuko also expresses her aspiration to become a Chinese language teacher upon returning home, serving as a bridge and facilitator for friendly exchanges between China and Japan.

Our college places great emphasis on enhancing language proficiency and skills of international students in Chinese. We actively encourage students to participate in various competitions and provide comprehensive guidance through a team of dedicated teachers. These efforts have effectively motivated students to take initiative in their language learning and have showcased the remarkable abilities and strengths of our students.
