" Municipal Environment and Public Health " doctoral program includes modern civil engineering, municipal engineering, environmental science and engineering, biology, medicine, ecology, biological resources and engineering, geography, toxicology and informatics Supported by multidisciplinary cutting-edge science and technology.It is an emerging interdisciplinary subject that studies the relevant theoretical techniques and methods for the coordinated development of human urban health and the environment. This subject will combine the needs of China's social and economic development, center on the environmental effects of urbanization and the sustainable development of the urban environment, and take the municipal environment and health effects as the research object.

Introduction

Ecological transformation and reintegration: Aiming at the problems of pesticide residues and heavy metal pollution that the world is facing. Develop an ecological transformation plan based on respect for nature, implement results through field operations, and understand its mechanism through laboratory demonstration and research. The research content involves the effective use and transformation of natural assets, soil vitality restoration, soil water retention and the relationship between microorganisms, etc., combined with AI applications, to achieve true agricultural intelligence. The team is committed to food safety source management, pursuing the removal of pesticides and fertilizers from the agricultural operating system in order to achieve the goal of human health.

Introduction

Distinguished Professor Yacine Hemar (https://ias.szu.edu.cn/info/1176/6192.htm) obtained his PhD in Physics (1995) and a Habilitation to Direct Research (2008) from the University of Strasbourg in France. He is interested by the structure-function relationship of food systems in solution, emulsion, or gel forms. His research areas include the physico-chemical characterization of biological macromolecules such as proteins and polysaccharides. He also focuses on model dairy systems and dairy products and ingredients, and how they are affected by novel process technologies, particularly High Hydrostatic Pressure and high-Power Ultrasound. He has supervised more than 40 PhDs and Masters, and published in excess of 200 peer-reviewed articles in international journals.

Introduction

In 2008, he returned to China from Virginia Tech University and was employed as a distinguished researcher & a professor & a tenured professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the School of Engineering of Peking University. Currently, he is a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor of the Advanced Research Institute of Shenzhen University. He has been selected as Elsevier 2014-2018 Highly Cited Chinese Scholar and the Most Influential Chinese Scholar in the World in Physics and Astronomy for 5 consecutive years.


He has been engaged in the research of piezoelectric, ferroelectric, and magnetoelectric functional materials and devices for a long time. In the theoretical research of magnetoelectric functional materials, he has established the theory of piezoelectric metamaterials and the equivalent circuit method of "magneto-elastic-electric" coupling. It is one of the internationally recognized theoretical methods. In terms of piezoelectric micromotors, the world’s smallest piezoelectric micromotor was first invented, low-temperature actuators, high-temperature piezoelectric motors, and high-temperature actuators were developed, and a series of linear piezoelectric motors with micro-nano resolution were developed and successfully applied to space communications of Quantum Experiments at Space Scale (QUESS) (2018).

Introduction

Professor Hu’s research focuses on algae photosynthesis, physiology and biochemistrycell and molecular biology, photobioreactor system design and large-scale microalgae cultivation, microalgae bioenergy and high value-added bioactive compounds manufacturing. His team is currently exploring and developing commercial and industrial applications of microalgae in nutrition and health, bioenergy, and aquatic animal breeding; using microalgae to treat industrial wastewater and waste gas as well as other ecological and environmental protection applications.

He holds the position of Professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies of Shenzhen University, and at the Institute of Hydrobiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Hu, Qian is the President of the International Society for Applied Phycology (ISAP, 2021-2024).

Introduction

Dr. F. Liu is currently a Distinguished Professor in Institute for Advanced Study at Shenzhen University. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from North Carolina State University. Right after his graduation, he worked for the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado as a postdoctoral researcher. Then he joined The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Hong Kong as an assistant professor. His expertise is in renewable energy (in particular, solar energy), energy storage (batteries and fuel cells), novel materials, and solid state devices. His teaching areas include energy, materials science, and novel devices. He has 50+ publications on prestigious journals. He has organized and chaired the Track 1-13 Photovoltaics, ASME Energy Sustainability Conference for three consecutive years, and is the conference track organizer of Solar Energy Materials, IUMRS-ICAM2013 International Conference on Advanced Materials. He is on the editorial board of several journals. He is holding 60+ patents. Dr. Liu is a member of many professional societies including Sigma Xi: The Scientific Research Society, Materials Research Society (MRS), American Physical Society (APS), IEEE, and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Qingshan Jason Niu

Introduction

For over twenty years, Professor Niu had worked in USA as an educator, researcher and innovator in the area of electronic materials, energy materials and reverse osmosis membranes: first at Cornell University and UC Berkeley as a Professor Assistant, then at The Dow Chemical Company(Dow)and General Electric Company(GE)as a Principal Scientist. Since 2014, he has worked in China as a Distinguish Professor in the field of materials science and engineering: first at China University of Petroleum (East China) and now at the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS), Shenzhen University. He has published nearly 40 influential articles internationally and domestically, 19 US patents have been authorized, 3 Chinese patents have been authorized, and 15 Chinese patents are being applied for. He has a high reputation and influence in the industry, leading the technical direction of membrane materials and process in domestic and foreign water treatment processes.

Introduction

Dr. Mingfu Wang has been a distinguished professor of Food Science at Institute of Advanced Study, Shenzhen University since 2021. His research focus is on food nutrition and health working on the health benefits of food components (particularly polyphenol) and chemical aspect of foods.  Dr. Wang received his Ph.D. degree in Food Science from Rutgers University in 2000. Dr. Wang had worked as a faculty member in School of Biological Sciences, The University of Hong Kong for 16 years. Currently, he also has an adjunct professorship at Shanghai Ocean University and honorary professorship at The University of Hong Kong and Jilin University. Dr. Wang has authored or co-authored over 250 SCI journal papers (google citation: 13000, H-index: 65). He serves as an editor/editorial board member for several international journals in food science area including Editor-in-Chief for Journal of Functional Foods by Elsevier. He was awarded with AGFD Fellow Award by American Chemical Society (2018) for his outstanding contribution to the field of Agricultural and Food Chemistry and Most Investment Potential Award, Greater Bay Area High Value Patent Portfolio Contest (2019).

Introduction

Dr. Ka-Wing Cheng is Professor and leader of the Food Safety, Nutrition and Health group at the Institute for Advanced Study, Shenzhen University. He received his BSc and PhD degrees from the University of Hong Kong. Dr. Cheng’s research interests mainly include: 1) phytochemical-based strategies for attenuating health risk associated with dietary exposure to heat-induced toxicants, and 2) efficacy and molecular mechanism of functional food/ nutraceuticals for the management of lifestyle or diet-associated chronic disorders such as metabolic and inflammatory diseases. Dr. Cheng’s work has been funded by multiple national and provincial grants. He has published >70 papers in Compr. Rev. Food Sci. Food Saf., Trends Food Sci. Technol., J. Agric. Food Chem., Food Chem., Mol. Nutr. Food Res., Food Func., etc. He served as Associate Editor for RSC Advances and Guest Editor for Frontiers in Nutrition. Introduction

Prof. Ye Zhou is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), and a group leader in the Institute for Advanced Study, Shenzhen University. He received his B.S. from Nanjing University, M.S. from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Ph.D. from City University of Hong Kong. His research interests include flexible and printed electronics, nano-composite materials and nano-scale devices for technological applications such as logic circuits, memories, photonics and sensors. He holds 19 granted USA/China patents and has published more than 150 papers in journals such as Science, Chemical Reviews, Nature Electronics, Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, etc. More than 40 of his works have been highlighted as cover pages or frontispieces. He sits in the Editorial/Community Board of Materials Horizons, The Innovation, Multifunctional Materials, Vacuum, IEEE Access, Applied Nanoscience, STAM and served as the Guest Editor of Nanoscale Horizons, Polymer International, etc.

Yongxiang Gao

Introduction

Prof Yongxiang Gao obtained his PhD in Physics from McGill University. He has postdoctoral experiences in several world-class universities, including Oxford University. He was awarded Marie-Curie Fellow from the European commission, One-Hundred Youth Talent Scholar of Shaanxi Province, and Shenzhen Overseas High-Level Talent. His research focuses on soft matter, with a particular effort on developing advanced chemical methods for controlling the morphology and site-specific chemistry of colloids with high precision and using them as model systems to tackle challenging problems in the field of condensed matter physics, self-assembly, active matter, and micro/nanomotors. His group has published 35 articles in world-renowned journals, such as Physical Review Letters, Macromolecules, ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, Journal of Materials Chemistry A and Soft Matter. His research has received funding from Natural Science Foundation of China, Natural Science Foundation of Guangdong, Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and Natural Science Foundation of Shenzhen.

Introduction

I have published nearly 30 papers in top journals including Chem. Rev., Acc. Chem. Res., Angew. Chem., Nat. Plants, and Anal. Chem., with total citation of >1000. Our research goal is to develop novel point-of-care diagnostic tools for automated “sample-to-answer” biomarker analysis, to empower the capability on disease detection and management. These portable and connected chemosensors will be integrated with new assay methods to facilitate early diagnosis, personalized medicine, and bring healthcare closer to the patients. We will apply interdisciplinary approaches to create these detection systems, including smartphone-based sensors, molecular assays, lab-on-a-chip devices, microfluidics, and plasmonic nanomaterials.

Introduction

Wei Zhao obtained his bachelor and master degree at University of Science and Technology of China, and the doctor degree at University of Erlangen-Nuremberg (Germany). After that, he worked at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Hong Kong) and University of Washington (USA). In July of 2018, he joined the Institute for Advanced Study in Shenzhen University as a principal investigator, and had built the Clean Energy Technology Lab. Currently, his lab mainly focuses on the following research topics related to clean energy techniques: (1) Electrocatalysis for HER, ORR, OER and CO2 reduction; (2) Organic Electrosynthesis; (3) Surface Catalysis; (4) Electrochemical Sensors; He has published 48 papers on prominent international scientific journals. His contributions have been highly recognized and widely cited by peer researchers (Google Scholar citation > 1100, H-index =18).

Introduction

ZHU Ping, Professor at the institute for advanced study, Shenzhen University. His research interest mainly focuses on electromagnetic radiation measurements from visible to infrared spectra range, the total solar irradiance, the spectral solar irradiance, and the terrestrial outgoing longwave radiation. Currently, he is deeply involved in the first space environment simulation laboratory construction at Shenzhen University. The laboratory is designed to validate and characterize the remote sensing optical instruments. The team also study the lunar based Earth observation and planetary exploration.

Introduction

Xu Shanshan, female, researcher, Institute of Advanced Research in Shenzhen University, specializes in the field of biomedical materials. She is good at building surface micro-nano structure, special mechanical response structure and drug controlled release system, the relationship between structure and performance is revealed by using rheologic, differential thermal and scattering techniques. In 2004, she graduated from Tsinghua University, and in 2009, she graduated from the Institute of Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences. June 2016-present Shenzhen University as a research fellow at the Institute for Advanced Studies, and 2019-present adjunct associate professor at the University of Maryland School of Technology. More than 15 years experience in design, development and performance evaluation of high-performance implantable medical devices.
