The Opening ceremony for international students of CIE concluded successfully

In the melodious song of SZU’s international choir, overseas students’ opening ceremony of 2018 spring semester was held at the lecture hall of technology building on the afternoon of 3rd March. Apart from international freshmen harboring china dream, both faculties of CIE and representatives from Exit-Entry Administration Division of Nanshan district, attended this ceremony.

At the beginning, secretary Huang Donglin gave a brief introduction of SZU and CIE, and warmly welcomed newly-arrived students and announced the official start of the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Dong Guomin-Dean of CIE-showed appreciation towards more than 500 foreign students for choosing SZU in his speech. He believed that SZU, as a well-disciplined and comprehensive university of internationalization level, could provide students with high-quality cultivation resources. And at the same time, overseas students would also breathe new life into Shenzhen, a young and cosmopolitan city. Besides, Mr. Dong suggested that students should learn Chinese actively, know more about Chinese culture to expand their horizons, improve personal quality with existent resources, strengthen exchange and make more friends.

As teachers’ representative, Tianmiao claimed that they would stick to their dream of foreign Chinese teaching, enhance teaching quality, try to be students’ scholarly mentors and beneficial friends, seek common progress through cultural exchange.

Two students’ representatives, Li Ming from Morocco and Fujiwara Yoshiko from Japan talked about their personal experience of Chinese acquisition respectively. Both of them said that they were honored to be chosen by Shenzhen University and become members of CIE. Although it was not easy to learn Chinese, they would improve their Chinese rapidly in China with CIE teachers’ careful guidance and take active part in various activities to get closer contact with Chinese culture.

To make sure that foreign students could effectively respond to unpredictable situations and strike a balance between study and life, CIE has cooperated with Public Security Bureau and invited police officer Mr. Tian to this ceremony. In a humorous way, Mr. Tian reminded foreign students to understand the legal knowledge and not get involved in illegal activities, keep alert to suspicious events and turn to Chinese public security authorities for help. Combined with several real stories, his straightforward and organized speeches were well received among the audiences.

At the end of the ceremony, secretary Huang Donglin delivered an orientation speech and gave warm tips for students in terms of series of problems that they may encounter in future study and life, such as attendance rate, online attendance record, classroom discipline, transcript of study, scholarship, visa, HSK test, semester schedule etc.

At last, this spring opening ceremony ended with group photos and campus tour. As a member of SZU family, we hope that all international freshmen could adapt themselves to the new environment and improve their Chinese abilities in a short period of time with CIE staff’s assistance and tailor-made training.
